Twitter have today launched their new platform ‘Curator‘. It’s software that allows users to set determined hashtags, themes and authors, and will display their content on a live stream suitable for any screen and even broadcast graphics systems.
Many Channel Island events and projects are now embracing Twitter as the main driver for discussion. It provides a simple opportunity to interact and respond to people not only in a physical ‘town hall’ sense, but in a digital way as well. Hashtags help set the topic and keep discussion on track. Photos enhance the space and create a sense of context. Tweeting whilst attending an event is now consumer journalism.
From what we’ve seen so far, we believe that tools like Curator and Twitter’s new live-streaming app Periscope will completely change the way we cover events and local debates. If people can’t attend events, they’ll often turn to Twitter to find out what they’re missing and join in with questions. Curator would be an ideal way for people like local governments to respond to both digital and physical communities at the same time.
Discussions are no longer confined to town halls; they’re live streamed, live Tweeted, live blogged and shared across a range of other social platforms – allowing anybody to join in at any time of day. We look forward to experimenting with these new tools to enhance, advertise and make the most of local events.
