All words by Ben Le Tocq:

“Hi, I’m Ben Le Tocq from the Guernsey Grammar School Sixth Form Centre in year 13, I am currently studying towards my A levels. I have been at Crowd Media through work experience to learn more about the creative industry.
The task I was set, was to create some targeted content as part of the Locate Guernsey campaign. The first phase was to understand what Locate Guernsey, a client of Crowd Media, does, and how Crowd work with them to support their marketing activity.
As part of this task, I created a slideshow of the key areas and focus points the business works from. I researched the business across several media platforms to see what they have achieved and what areas they could develop. This research benefited me when preparing for the other stages of the task.
Before the second phase, I needed to decide on some images that not only linked with the message but enhanced the ideas. This was a key method I learnt during the week. Phase two involved working with Simon to create a message linked with one of the three key areas that Locate Guernsey works from – Your Home, Your Business and Your Life. I chose to create a lifestyle message, this was then developed and linked with three photos to enhance the message. The photos were edited using Adobe Photoshop and were ready to use as part of a new targeted advert via social media.
Phase three involved working with Ollie and learning how to process a targeted advert strategically on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. This involved choosing a target market (I chose any gender between the age of 35-55) and then specifically identifying job titles, industries, lifestyles and general interests. Once this was done we were able to decide on a budget and a time scale for the Ad.
When piecing all the information together it was important to use the correct wording in order to get over the right message and avoid any confusion or negativity.
Having spent a week at Crowd Media, I’ve learnt a wide variety of new skills including a basic understanding of Adobe Photoshop and how to go about social media marketing when producing an advert on different platforms. This involved researching what methods had previously worked and what the general themes are with this type of work.
When using Adobe Photoshop, it meant we could easily group photos together using the layering tool while keeping the image quality. This software allowed me to process the Advert I had been working on all week. After working with Ollie when producing the advert using Facebook and Instagram, I had a better understanding of how in depth the process was and the precision needed to process a good advert which will reach the target market.
Overall, I really enjoyed the time I have spent here and have learnt a lot using skills and techniques which I will be able to use in the future. I’d highly recommend the Crowd Media to anyone looking to do work experience in this area.”
