Tell us about Red.

Red is a grill house and cocktail bar in the Lower Pollet, Guernsey. We have a passion for food and drink – our restaurant is a way for us to share this with our fellow islanders.

In which areas of business has social media been most useful?

For us social media is great of spreading awareness and new initiatives at Red. We use it to tell our followers when we have something special that is new to the menu, or when we have a particular DJ playing in the bar, and to remind people of the promotions we run. For example every Monday we pay homage to the wine lovers amongst us by giving them 25% off our entire wine list – which is pretty extensive btw.

Which social media platform do you feel is the most successful? how do you use each platform and how do you feel the audience differs on each?

We’ve been lucky that both Facebook and Twitter have been successful for us; we like to have a chat with our fellow islanders on Twitter, and Facebook is great for sharing photos. Trip Advisor has also been an important tool to provide feedback directly from our clients on our services, and has not only helped us to learn how to improve, but also been a huge confidence boost on the occasions we do get it right for people.

Do you think social media has been helpful in improving the experience your customers have, and how has social media changed the relationship you have with your customers?

Social media lets our customers enjoy a little bit of Red in their every day life, it helps us all become closer and share our passions. Our customers, followers and fans seem to like it so far – if they didn’t we are sure they would let us know!

Have you come across any problems using social media?

We have really enjoyed the experience so far, reaching out and sharing common interests is what it is all about for us. It can be time consuming, but our fans are worth it and it will be something we continue to do as long as people are interested.

What’s your favourite part of using social media?

Getting people excited about the things we also love; bringing people together through food and drink is something that has happened for generations – we see our social media activity as an extension of that philosophy.

Do you think that consumers/customers expectations have changed around customer service, e.g. do you believe that your customers expect to be contacted with special offers and updates via new media, rather than just traditional marketing?

I don’t think that there are any expectations placed on social media. If people want to hear from you – they will follow you. The variety of mediums to contact our clients gives them the choice of how they prefer to hear from us, and how engaged they become with us.

Do you believe that the Guernsey marketplace has seen growth in customers using social to contact with you and engage?

Yes of course, Guernsey follows the trends of the rest of the world and is not as far behind as people assume!
