Recently at Crowd we discovered Fanx.com. A great way to say thank you to the people you love! Our “Social Goes Local” series of blog posts was meant to be just for Guernsey businesses but we loved the Fanx crew so much we decided to let them be part of the action. The lovely Mitch (@fanxmitch) even sent me a t-shirt (pictured above)
Tell us about your business. How long you have been in business? What is your business about?
Fanx.com is a cool way to say thank you to the people you care about. It can be used to say thank you for any occasion. The recipient gets and email, Facebook or twitter notification which links to their own separate page on fanx.com. Fanx.com has been spreading appreciation since May 4th 2011.
How have you been using social media to benefit your business and which areas of business has social media been most useful?
We have been using social media to find other people/companies/organisations etc that have the same or similar goals as we do – which is to create happiness and fulfilment in peoples lives. We also use social media to really connect and understand our users – we really want them to feel it is their site, not ours, so by talking to them via Facebook and Twitter we can build some great relationships!
How much business can you attribute to social media marketing in comparison to other forms of marketing you are using?
Social media marketing can in some ways be more effective as every one seems to be on the web, therefore making them easily accessible. We recently ran a competition via YouTube and gained around 8000 unique users within a 48 hour period which was a great achievement – the users loved it!
What problems have you come across using social media?
Using social media can sometimes be very time consuming. You can’t build relationships with people in 5 minutes, it takes time. Having said that, the time spent using social media is very valuable. Another problem is that you can’t control what people say about you, I guess we just have to accept that.
Which platform have you found the most success with for your business?
Twitter, Facebook and YouTube are our main platforms that we use. They are all equally useful as they have different benefits, for example Twitter is a great way to see what people are up to, and to also let them know what you are up to as well.
Have you found that opening your business up to social media has got you more success locally or from a wider audience?
I’d say more from a wider audience – we have had a variety of different users from all over the world.
How has social media changed the relationship you have with your clients?
Social media has allowed us to build some really strong relationships with lots of different people, from which we would never have been able to without the likes of Facebook and Twitter. The amount of people you can meet in the same place is amazing! every one we have met so far have been really nice and have given use some really valuable feedback.
Have you come across any misconceptions that you would like for those getting into social media marketing to understand?
Be true to yourself and don’t try to be something your not – people see through this, so just be genuine.
