This week saw social networking giant Twitter launch an additional feature to their platform, an app that gives users the ability to get creative with short 6 second looping micro-videos.

New York start-up developer Vine Labs was approached by Twitter in October of 2012, and although anyone can experiment with Vine regardless of whether they are active on Twitter or not, the application is now cleverly shaped around Twitter to accompany the increasingly popular 140 character micro-blogging Tweet, posting straight to your Twitter profile with the option for users and anyone receiving your post to have audio on or off.

A spokesperson from Twitter explained that after experimenting and varying the length for the video content, “6 seconds was the ideal length, from both the production and consumption side.”

Vine co-founder Dom Hofmann described, “Posts on Vine are about abbreviation; the shortened form of something larger. They’re little windows into the people, settings, ideas and objects that make up your life. They’re quirky, and we think that’s part of what makes them so special.”

Vine is currently only available for iPhone & iPod Touch, you can read more about it and download from the App Store here.
